The Sun will take part in this year’s Mission Creek Festival, an intimate music and literature celebration highlighting independent artists and publishers. Events are held in venues around downtown Iowa City. We will have a table at the book fair and will host a free reading and a free writing workshop in partnership with the Iowa Writers’ House. Our regular retreats are on hiatus this year, so this is one of your few chances to come see us in person.

Readers Write: An Interactive Round Table

Venue: The Iowa Writers’ House
Admission: Free and open to the public. Registration required.
In this event, Sun assistant editor Derek Askey will discuss the Readers Write section and share advice for being published. In response to Readers Write prompts, attendees will put pen to paper and, if desired, share their work in a comfortable, supportive environment. A Q&A session will cap off this gathering.
The workshop is presented in partnership with the Iowa Writers’ House and Mission Creek Literary Festival.
